Laneige Water Sleeping Pack Product Review

'Laneige' means snow in french - isn't that beautiful?
I first discovered Laneige a few years ago in Hong Kong whilst I was looking for some new skin care products. Quite a lot of asians use this brand and trust it so I thought I would try their best selling items to see what the hype was all about.

Laneige is a Korean brand and specialises in skin care for all skin types giving you dewy radiant skin.
Laneige has a speciaility in the study of water crystals, meaning their skin products have been made using the science of water and the results of it for our skin giving us immense results. I was super excited to test this and feel it for myself!

Laneige is huge in Asia, there are independent Laneige stores in a lot of places in Hong Kong, can't imagine how it is in Korea!!

I decided to try the worlds number 1 global best selling night pack, it has been nominated various awards from known magazines such as Elle Beauty 2011.

Light gel-type texture provides intensive hydration, vitality, and brightening effect while restoring skin with deep relaxation - Laneige.com

It promises to:

- Antioxidant effect of Hunza Apricot Extracts helps brighten skin tone evenly by removing harmful oxygen and purifying skin.
- Recoverine from Chestnuts promotes turnovers of horny layers to remove dead cells away for vigorous water supply and sleek skin texture.
- An aromatic essence compound exclusively developed by AMOREPACIFIC, Sleepscent™(Patent application No. 10-2009-0043726), helps to relax your mind and body and derive for a good sleep. A good sleep effect allowing sufficient relaxation eventually reinforces skin restoration for healthier skin condition. Essential oils from Orange Flower, Rose, Ylang Ylang, Sandal Wood etc. are contained in the Sleepscent™.
- Light gel-type texture without stickiness but moisture leaves you a comfortable sleep.

Pro's:

  • great relaxing scent
  • soft cold formula
  • cute packaging
  • formula glides onto skin easily (comes with a spatula but I have lost it now! woops)
  • refreshing scent

Con's:

  •  formula sticky on the skin, it just sits on the skin
  • wake up to sticky skin
  • hard to find to purchase as it is a very popular item from Laneige
  • jar is quite big for travelling
  • not good for the skin during humid weathers

It comes with a spatula (which I have lost) and I scoop it out and place it onto my fresh cleansed face before I sleep. I let the product sink into the skin and slightly melt, then I would gently massage it all over my face, working from the centre, lifting it upwards and outwards.
It has been recomended to absorb the scent of this product for 3 seconds before massaging it to the face, and it is so relaxing. Infact, the scent is quite addictive! It smells abit like fresh linen and flowers, so refreshinggggggggggg!!

There is just one size available for this product, 80ml , suitable for all skin types.

I purchased mine from SaSa for $148hk -  drug store in Hong Kong, it isn't available in all stores but it was the cheapest I found on the market. You can purchase this online too! Shipping would depend on your location.

Main ingredients:

  • Beta Glucan = skin regeneration effect
  • Ceremide SLN = moisture loss protection
  • Hunza apricot extract = skin purification
  • Chestnut extract = improving skin texture
I guess by the sounds of the ingredients, it's all very natural and has major benefits for our skin. I tend to only use this when my skin is in need of emergency TLC, like if I was only to be sleeping for less than 4 hours (which happens from time to time). It's great for when I am resting before another job I have to get to, it makes my skin feel plumped but too sticky which is why I don't use it very often. I seem to use this when I want to smell the scent, but the scent wears off after a minute or two, but by then I would be asleep , kind of defeats the object of using it to be honest!

I have used this when my skin is flawless, breakout-free and still my skin is sticky and the lotion is too watery. When I have used it when my skin is red and have break-outs, it stings and makes it worse so I have stopped using it when I have my bad skin days. I wouldn't recommend this to those who have skin problems, even though this states it is for any skin types, purely because the active ingredients in this sleeping pack does not benefit your skin problems. You need to address the problems before layering it with anything, it won't give the effect that it is suppose to.
I used this in Asia when my skin is dehydrated from the humidity to test out how moisturising it can make my skin, it only worked for me sometimes, not all the time which is why I stopped taking it with me to Asia. It's more suitable for cooler climates like England but that's just me personally. It might work for someone else but this is what happened to me.

It seems it is more of a product to use when you are massaging our face because of how it should be applied, by relaxing and massaging into the skin muscles to let it sink. I enjoy massaging my face, even better when someone does it for me but for those of you who don't do that sort of thing, you wont see the benefits of this product as much.

Sadly, I don't like this product as much as I thought I would but I am happy I got to try this! I enjoy using Laneige products but this one let me down.

Nu Skin SPF 35 Face & Body Cream Product Review

Finding the right product for your skin is just as important as knowing how much SPF we need to cover our skin before it becomes damaged. Not many people care and not so many understand about the products they are using. I like to read and understand the ingredients of every product that goes on my skin, especially when it comes to sun protection on my face.

Now that it is summer time, I always use a higher sun factor. All year round I use at least SPF 15, summer time I have SPF 35 minimum. I try not to sit out in the sun for too long as I can burn easily and have tan marks all over my body (which can last for quite a few months), and also my dark spots can grow bigger.
Our tissue cells can become cancerous and before you see the signs, it is too late to cure. That is what I am afraid of - knowing I cannot turn back time to un-do my mistakes therefore I use at least SPF 15 on my face/skin every single day, even in the winter time when it is dark. There are harmful UVA and UVB rays that damage our skin and they are invisible. UVA rays go deep into the dermis, and the UVB rays hit the surface of the dermis! When we use SPF , the rays reflect from it and protect the epidermis (the surface of the skin).
It certainly is very difficult to find a higher SPF 20 for the face in the market! You cannot just use your regular sun tan lotion for your face purely because your face needs more TLC as it is damaged every single day that you are living, yes, even when you cannot see the sun. The harmful UVA and UVB rays are constantly circulating around us, we don't see them but our skin feels the pain.

By using SPF 35, it means it protects your skin 35 times more than your usual time before you get burnt. For instance, it takes about 10 minutes for my skin to become burnt without SPF, so if I use SPF 35, it would make me last in the sun for 350 minutes (almost 6 hours) before I burn and complain lolz.
I use SPF 15 on my face in the winter and cover up the rest of my body, even though I am indoors most of the time, I am protecting my skin from the harmful UVA and UVB rays up to 15 times before it causes my skin any problems. Just because you cannot see the damage straight away, it doesn't mean there are no problems, later on you will see the effects, whether it is freckles, dark spots or redness to the skin.

People with light eyes or hair, who sunburn easily or do not tan have an increased risk of skin cancer and also malignant melanoma is almost twice as common in young women (up to age 34) as in young men, but more men die from it. (cancerresearch.co.uk). I have always believed that protection is better than cure, it only takes a minute to apply the sun factor on.
When we go abroad on holiday or on a long weekend break, we apply sun lotion, so why not when you are back home? What difference does it make?

For some people, cost is always the main issue but in actual fact, it costs more for health care and the inconvenience of pain. There is a choice of long term damage VS costs, I would rather chose paying that little bit more to prevent worsening health.
For some people, they have allergies to SPF products, that can be discussed with your dermatologist of experts of products. There are always product email address and websites to give you information about their products.

When it comes to lotion for my face or body, I look for these main things:

  • cost
  • ingredients
  • benefits
  • SPF
  • consistency
  • scent
I discovered Nu Skin and their products this year when I found the Galvanic Spa Machine and understanding what it did to my skin. I was very suprised to see there was an SPF 35 lotion for the face as well as the body and I bought it straight away!
I was super excited to try the product on myself as I had read a few testimonials on how great the product was and the active ingredients.

*Sealastin

open lid at the bottom of the tube makes sure you get all your product out
For £19, there is 100ml/3.4fl. oz of the product in the tube. The product stays upright which means when it comes to the end of using up the cream, gravity lets the product come out of the tube downwards. I love it when products come out at the bottom of the bottom rather than the top, it's such a hassle to use up all of the products! We all fight to use up everything - don't deny it! lolz!
The flip top cap is very easy to open and usually by now the caps snap off but I have used this over 10 times and had no problems with it!

Pro's:

  • suitable for face and body - it hasn't irritated my face at all and I have very sensitive skin.
  • bottle is stood upright
  • only need a little bit for the face and neck - a little goes a long way!
  • water resistant and allows up to 80 minutes of uninterrupted water play before you should apply
  • packaging does not melt in the sun - I have before had the tubes melt due to the heat which isn't good for the products as it can be cancerous
  • does not stain clothes
  • suitable for children over 6 months old so it can be used for the whole family
  • does not make the skin oily even out in the sun

Con's:

  • Just available in 1 size only
  • the highest SPF available is just the 35
  • there is a slight refreshing scent to this product but it wears off once it is soaked into the skin

I apply this as a base after my skin care regime in the morning, then my make up over. It hasn't caused my skin to become dry or oily, which is an important factor as it can make the skin look too unhealthy and cause break outs as well as the make up to smudge. I also use my moisture mist spray over my face to set my make up.

There are active ingredients which make this product unique:
  •  Mentha piperita (peppermint leaf extract) - a skin-soothing extract that helps reduce skin sensitivity and promotes a feeling of well-being.
  • Green tea extracts (TÄ“green97®) - a proprietary extract of green tea catechins, which are powerful antioxidants that scavenge cell-damaging free radicals.
  • SeaLastin - helps protect the skin’s support structures, promoting healthy collagen and elastin levels for skin suppleness.
  • Heat shock proteins - a unique technology that enhances the skin’s ability to protect against heat and UV stress, ensuring optimum cellular health.
I use this as my 3rd step to my face regime in the morning (tone, cleanse then moisturise)
I use a small amount to cover my face then massage it gently into my neck in an upwards and outwards motion, this lets gravity make my face become more uplifted. As we grow old, we grow south!!

From the first use of this lotion, I have found that the product has been thick to start with, then it is absorbed into the skin easily and not caused it to become oily. It soaks in within 1-2 minutes and with it's unique cooling effect from the peppermint extract, it gives me the confidence that my skin is going to be protected for at least 5 hours in the sun!

Even though in the UK we don't get much sun, I ensure I use a higher SPF on a sunny day to save myself from re-applying the lotion. I try not to sit out in the sun for too long as I burn, my skin becomes red and then tan.
If I was to sunbathe properly then I would reapply every 60-80 minutes to maximise the coverage and still tan at the same time.
After about 35 circular motions of massaging the product onto my hands, it sets and looks like this in less than 30 seconds

I have experienced SPF lotions stains the clothes, especially when I am on holiday and my white clothes have streaks in and cannot wash out unless it is bleached! I am pretty sure a lot of you guys have experienced that too which is a complete waste of money on the garments! You go on holiday, go home with a tan but ruined garments!
I have not experienced any complains from my clothes so far, even when I have applied this to my arms, shoulders, neck and feet. It was such a suprise for me which made me enjoy using it even more!!

I work mainly indoors but when I am outdoors especially when I have a day of photoshooting, I always apply this to my face and body to ensure my skin is fully protected from the harmful rays. I hardly re-apply unless I am in the direct sun for longer than half hour, it's so handy to carry in my bag as the tube is not that heavy.

If you are looking for an SPF lotion which has major benefits for you and your family then check it out on www.nuskin.com , they ship world wide!

NaPCA Moisture Mist vs Bio Oil

It's so important to know what we use on our skin because our skin is the largest organ we have to protect our organs, our cells, our brain.
Our skin can tell us how healthy we are, how hydrated or dehydrated we are.
The colour of our skin can determine how healthy we are, the texture can tell us how well looked after we are.

I moisturise atleast twice a day, once in the morning, and then after my shower at night before I go to sleep.  Even more in the cold, winter seasons because having smooth, supple, hydrated skin makes the skin look younger! I moisturise my hands more than anywhere else on my body as I wash my hands alot, I work in a hospital therefore hand hygiene is impeccable.
Everyday our skin goes through the tug and pulling, scratches, damages from UVA/UVB rays, allergy reactions, being in unclean environments, or using products which aren't right for us can show up. We may scar from the skin damage we go through, or we might have bruises or minor scratches. The skin will heal quicker if you use the right product, sleep a good amount, eat the right amount of nutrients etc.

I discovered Nu Skin and their products early this year, I really enjoyed reading up on the benefits of the products and understanding their ingredients in each product. I use a wide range of the Nu Skin products including Galvanic Spa which really helped to change my skin, you can click here for more information.

I really enjoy using the NaPCA Moisture Mist Spray whilst I use my Galvanic Spa because it really locks in the moisture of my Galvanic Treatment Gels . I also use it to set my make up, before I sleep, after I washed, toned and cleansed my face if my skin feels dry, it's great for the hair whenever I feel like my ends are getting abit dry from blow drying it. I also spray it lightly on my hair before I go out in the sun to lock in my hair's natural moisture, it's great for the body after I moisturise I spray a light spritz in an X shape across my body and that's enough already.

The mist spray pump is different to any other product bottle pumps because it spreads evenly in the air and the liquid does not leak out of the bottle like some I have tried in the past. This makes sure your NaPCA Moisture Mist spreads evenly after just one pump. You can see this in the air how fine the particles are giving the product an even flow on your skin and not waste any product.

Strawbeefull NaPCA moisture mist from Nu Skin
For just less than £13, there is 250ml of the product which has lasted me 3 months now and I use it every single day to set my make up, refresh my face after it's been washed, I use it with my face Galvanic Spa , Body Galvanic and also on my hair before heat gets onto it. It's very universal to me and that's what I love about it.

dried apricots, 2 empty sample bottles, NaPCA mist spray, bio oil, marker pen

I demonstrated the use of Bio Oil with the Nu Skin NaPCA Mioistuire Mist by using dried apricots as an example of the skin.
02/05/13 09:50am

In one bottle I added nothing but Bio Oil  and in the other bottle I added nothing but NaPCA Mist Spray with the dried apricots. I left them in my dark cool kitchen overnight and within 6 hours I could see the difference! Within 8 hours the dried apricots were transformed!
02 05 13 18:00

As you can see, I wrote the date and time of when I poured in the lotions into these bottles.

At 18:00 this was the result.

The one on the left containing Bio Oil was soaking the dried apricots and they remain the same shape and size. Whereas the one on the right containing the NaPCA Mist has transformed the dried apricots into plumpy apricots making it grow back to its original size.

Can you imagine what this does to your skin?!
almost 9 hours later the result

It contains:

Water (Aqua), Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Aloe barbadensis Leaf Juice, Sodium PCA, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Fructose,  Glycine, Inositol, Lactic Acid, Niacinamide, Urea, PPG-5-Ceteth-20, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Methylparaben, Sodium Benzoate.

Which means:
  •  Hyaluronic acid - an effective humectant that helps maintain ideal moisture levels - which is why the dried apricots plumped up and returning to its original shape. The moisture is absorbed into the
cellular structure of the dried apricot.
  • Humectant sodium PCA - helps to establish and safeguard essential moisture levels.
I have tried bio oil in the past, probably about 10 bottles and it doesn't give me adequate results. I don't want to waste more money on products that don't work on my skin and I like researching into products that I use to know I get the best out of what I buy.
Ensuring my skin has the right amount of moisture can help reduce the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles. Applying additional moisture or helping the skin maintain the water normally present will leave the
skin’s surface and appearance much smoother and softer. I want healthy looking skin from inside out - don't you?!
